HERE are some of the last week’s highlights from cases heard at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Robert Evans, aged 46, of Broad Street, Worcester, was jailed on July12 after being found guilty of carrying a bladed article on April 6.

On the day in question, Evans was carrying a black-handled meat cleaver in St Martin’s Gate, Worcester.

He originally pleaded not guilty to the offence on May 23, but magistrates sent him to prison for four months after finding him guilty at trial. He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Joynal Mohammed Hussain, 29, of no fixed abode, appeared before magistrates on July 12, charged with harassment.

Hussain pleaded guilty to the charge, which was that between June 3 and June 7, he attended the address of the victim and was abusive to her, as well as making ‘numerous’ telephone calls and sending her numerous texts.

Magistrates sent Hussain to prison for 68 days owing to his previous record of offending.

They also imposed a restraining order to prevent Hussain contacting the victim, or going to two addresses in Redditch. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge and £300 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Wasib Shah, who also goes by the name Champagne Charley, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on July 12 charged with driving his VW Golf in Bath Road, Worcester, with delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, a component of cannabis, in his blood.

Shah was fined £3,500 for the offence, to which he pleaded guilty, and was also banned from driving for three years pending an appeal, in addition to £350 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Ian Wallis, 50, of Snowshill Close, Worcester, was fined £505 for resisting PC Andrew Todd and using threatening and abusive words and behaviour on February 16 and 17.
