MANAGER Ian King says it's now a case of "fine tuning" his Redditch United troops ahead of the new campaign.

Reds continued their pre-season programme with a 4-1 win over Daventry on Saturday.

Goals came from Connor Deards, Nick Okoro, Kian Flanagan and young prospect Randane Larmond.

Deards is the latest confirmed recruit at the Trico Stadium as King continues to build towards the opening day visit of Banbury United on August 10.

The boss was pleased with the friendly victory and was glad to assess his options further.

He said: "It was a great opportunity to look at a few more players again and we're starting to get an idea of those players that will be pushing for a place and those that are maybe dropping off.

"Overall, the Daventry game was good for us and I was pleased with everyone's contribution.

"We got to look at a few different things in attack and defence and everything is starting to take shape.

"We are getting to that stage now where places are up for grabs and the players are responding to that. It was a pleasing run out.

"I'd say we're probably where we'd want to be at this stage and it's now about fine tuning a few things as we get closer to the start of the season."

King also highlighted the impact of young striker Larmond and vowed to give the club's younger players a chance to shine.

He added: "Randane has come through the youth ranks here and was playing for the reserves last season. He has trained really well so got his chance on Saturday.

"He won the penalty and took it himself and he is an example that there is a pathway here for our young players and we will look at giving them a chance if they show the right attitude."

Redditch were due to take on Evesham at home on Tuesday night before welcoming Bedworth United on July 23.
