WORK to revamp the play area in Malvern's Priory Park has been delayed after the chosen contractor dropped out of the project.

Malvern Hills District Council had hoped the £500,000 scheme would be completed in time for the start of the school summer holidays. The proposals included water fountains, a slide, trampoline and balancing equipment.

Attempts have been made to find another company to carry out the work but none have been able to implement the scheme within the agreed budget.

Officers are now working on a revised plan for the play area as part of a wider vision for Priory Park.

In 2016 more than 440 people responded to a public consultation on the future of the play area, with a third rating it as poor to very poor and two thirds branding it too small.

Council leader Sarah Rouse said: “We’re disappointed we have not been able to deliver the play area as promised for reasons outside of our control.

“However, we recognise the public gave us a clear message that the play area needs updating and we will deliver on that, whilst ensuring value for taxpayers.

“Our new plan is looking at how to make Priory Park a go-to destination for residents and visitors of every age.”
