HERE are some of the latest stories from the magistrates court.

Daniel Beard was subject to a conditional discharge in relation to possession of cannabis when his wallet containing crack cocaine was found outside Asda in St Martin's Gate and passed onto police.

A bank card inside the wallet with the 30-year-old's name on it was used by officers to identify the owner before he was arrested.

Chair of the bench, Brent Robinson, told him "crack cocaine is not the future" and he hoped he remained on the straight and narrow.

For the crack cocaine possession, he was fined £120 and £40 for the cannabis due to the discharge breach.

He was also ordered to pay £185 towards court costs, and a £30 victim surcharge.

Beard agreed to pay off the costs at fines at a rate of £5 a week.

Lisa Smith

stole over £100 worth of Yankee candles from a city shop because she was “struggling with money”had taken the items from B&M in St Martin’s Gate to “buy some food” after her benefits were cut, her solicitor told magistrates yesterday.

The 44-year-old is currently working alongside the Citizens Advice Bureau after her Employment and Support Allowance was cut to £152 a fortnight, said solicitor Sumreen Afsar.

Chair of the bench Brent Robinson gave Smith a six-month community order, including a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement.

Alan Mariano

, 40 chased Clive Griffiths down the road and told a woman he was going to rape her.

A statement from Mr Griffiths read: “I am anxious to go into the city centre just in case I bump into him again.”

The next incident happened when a woman was walking around Angel Place and Mariano said to her: “You work for the police; I’m going to rape you.”

Mariano was given a 24-month mental health order, 30 rehabilitation requirement days and fines of £460. There are also restraining orders preventing him from contacting or going near the two victims for two years.
