AMAZING Astwood Bank landed title glory as they overhauled long-time leaders Stourbridge with victory over their rivals last Saturday.

Bank bagged top spot in the Worcestershire Country Premier Division by winning the title decider at Sambourne Lane to leapfrogging Stour at the death.

Stourbridge were bowled out for just 119 after batting first on their home pitch.

Josh Baker (3-23) and Dan Thomas (3-21) did the damage to set up the memorable success.

Bank were then led by the bat of Tom Underhill (71) as they secured a four-wicket win to be crowned champions.

They will now go head-to-head with the winners of the region's other feeder leagues to find out who will win promotion to the Birmingham and District League.

Captain Pete Alexander said: It's been a rollercoaster of a season really but I don't think we've been top until the very last moment.

"When the fixtures came out we always thought the Stourbridge game on the last day had a chance of everything riding on it and that's what happened.

"The players have done brilliantly to just stick in there and make sure we stayed within touching distance. I'm proud of how they have done.

"We just went out and played our normal game and I told the lads that all the pressure was going to be on Stourbridge after being top for so long.

"I was really happy with the total we restricted them to. Our seamers removed their top order and then our spinners did really well after that.

"Tom Underhill has been amazing all season for us and did it again to help us chase down the total.

"We enjoyed it but will now focus on the other games coming up. We didn't expect to win the league so these games are a massive bonus for us."

Bank will now take on Warwickshire League winner Walmley, Shropshire winners Wem and Staffordshire winners Pelsall in a round robin tournament to decide who wins promotion.

They will start with a trip to Pelsall this Saturday and welcome Wem on Sunday. They face Walmley at a neutral venue the following Saturday.
