VISITORS are invited to bring their surplus apples and pears to Croome, near Pershore, to be thrown into a giant crusher and turned into scrumptious juice to take home this weekend.

The two day event at the National Trust is a great way to use up those windfalls collected from the garden.

“We are delighted to be holding our ever popular apple pressing days again this year. It’s such a great way to use up that unwanted fruit that many of us have lying around our gardens.” said Katherine Alker, Garden and Outdoors Manager.

With autumn here, many people have excess fruit which is often left to rot, so Croome’s juicing days are a great way to make use of them.

Visitors can watch as their fruit tumbles into a giant press with fresh juice coming out.

There will also be a limited supply of apples to buy on the day from Croome’s orchard which features local and historic varieties such as Worcester Pearmain, Catshead, Ashmead’s Kernel and Pitmaston Pine Apple – some which date back to the eighteenth century.

The free event takes place this Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, between 11am-3pm. Don’t forget to bring a container to take home your delicious juice.

Croome will be open for a free weekends on 21 and 22 September – no booking required, just turn up. Further information about Croome can be found by visitingnationaltrust.org.uk/croome or by visiting heritageopendays.org.uk.
