AN INDIAN restaurant which was given a zero-star hygiene rating after an inspection in August has said the main concerns have been addressed.

Jalsagor Restaurant on St Owen St was given the lowest possible score and marked as 'urgent improvement necessary'.

According to the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) website, major improvement is necessary in relation to the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, as well as the management of food safety.

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building includes having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Improvement is also necessary in the third area businesses are marked on: hygienic food handling.

The restaurant has hit back and said inspectors are now satisfied with the action taken.

"Following the inspection visit on the first week of August an immediate improvement plan was put in place and the main concerns remedied on the same day.

"The inspector returned in the middle of August and was satisfied with the remedial action taken and the condition of the restaurant and premises.

"The inspector revisited on September 5 and was satisfied with the food hygiene standards at the restaurant and the restaurant anticipates that its food rating will be reinstated shortly."

Businesses where food is supplied, sold or consumed must be inspected at intervals ranging from six months to two years and their hygiene standards across the three categories are rated
