THE River Severn is at its highest level in Worcester since February 2014 and there's a risk city centre roads could be closed today.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, has said the levels are "rising slowly", with the likes of Hylton Road now partially flooded.

"All the roads in Worcester city centre are open," said Mr Throup in a video posted on Twitter earlier today. "Water is getting quite close to some of them.

"We will be working with our [Worcestershire County Council] Highways colleagues this morning to make sure that we are keeping a very close eye on it through the day and if necessary we will be able to close these roads if the water starts getting onto them.

"At the moment we don't think it will but we need to keep a very close eye on things."
