As a follow up to the Spring Clean in April, Newent Town Council recently organised an Autumn Litter Pick.

Several Town Councillors and staff took time out on a Saturday to tackle some of the litter & discarded rubbish around the town.

A spokesman said: "It was a very productive and enjoyable morning, helped by the warm and dry weather, for once.

"Armed with litter pickers and refuse bags, supplied by the Forest of Dean District Council, the team targeted areas not far from the town centre. In just 1½ hours, five refuse bags had been filled and various large items, included discarded fencing, had been collected.

"Refreshments were served in the Market House after, with the Bar and Kitchen in Newent having kindly donated recyclable drinks cups to use.

Councillor Mrs Ruth Wadley said: “It is a great chance for the community to get together, meet friends and clear up at the same time."
