I DOUBT anyone will oppose the idea of creating an extra car park at Worcestershire Royal Hospital as, clearly, more spaces are needed.

Anyone who has parked, or tried to park, at the hospital will tell you that there simply aren’t enough spaces, so it’s good news that the NHS trust and a landowner are in talks about turning nearby land into a new car park.

However, as welcome as a new car park will be, it won’t solve the wider issue of the roads around the hospital not being able to cope with the traffic going to and from the Royal.

In my view, a radical approach is needed to stop the traffic jams on the roads around the hospital, which are caused by everyone accessing the site from Newtown Road.

There needs to be a new access road to the hospital, turning off the A440, to the east of the hospital. This new road, heading westbound into the hospital site, would prevent all the hospital traffic from using Newtown Road and thus spread out the flow of vehicles.

This, hopefully, would be a way of preventing the terrible congestion.
