FOR the past few months, members of Ludlow Cancer Support Group have been busy gathering wool to knit into strips.

Supporter, Anne Coe, co-ordinated and supervised the work, liaising with member Sonia Gwilliam.

Together, they combined the strips most artistically to create warm and colourful blankets.

Anne then contacted James Cooper, Operations Manager for The Furniture Scheme in Ludlow, to see if he could make use of the blankets. “Yes, indeed!” said Mr Cooper.

He told members that The Furniture Scheme is a Social Enterprise which supports local people by providing a safe and caring environment where people are respected, encouraged and valued.

“The blankets will go to families who will be delighted to receive them,” he said.

Ludlow Cancer Support Group celebrated its fifth birthday this year, with a Tea Party in the Parish Room of St Peter’s Church.

The group provides support and a meeting place for people of all ages who have cancer or are affected by the disease

The Group’s final meeting of 2019 takes place at 11am on Friday, December 13, when members will listen to carols from the Rockspring Centre and enjoy a festive buffet.

During the year, Ludlow Cancer Support Group has staged a variety of social and fund-raising events, and as a result has been able to donate £500 to Severn Hospice; £50 to Doddington Village Committee; £176 to Breast Cancer Care; £500 to Acorns’ Children’s Hospice; £100 to Edward Sinclair, who ‘ran’ for Macmillan Cancer Support; £1,000 to the O’Connor Haematology Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, and £430 raised from its Macmillan Coffee Morning.
