A spokesman said: "Mike Garry has performed across the world, working with the likes of John Cooper Clarke and his poetry can be heard regularly on and BBC TV and Radio.

"He has worked alongside musicians Philip Glass, Badly Drawn Boy and The Fall to name but a few, as his poetry carries a unique musicality unheard before, lending itself perfectly to a musical environment."

The spokesman added: "Described by iconic designer Peter Saville as 'a genius', Mikes work focuses on the city and its people, championing the underdog and finding beauty amongst the ugliness and triumph amongst tragedy."
