THIS Christmas, get Beyond the Barricade at Malvern Theatres.

This doesn't mean civil unrest will be breaking out, following the General Election, because the show is actually a celebration of Broadway and the West End, which is far more important, after all.

Digging up the pavements, then, will certainly not be required, as two decades of song are celebrated in style.

But what else can an audience expect?

A spokesman said: "Celebrating a fantastic 20 years touring in 2019, the UK’s longest running Musical Theatre Concert Tour features past principal performers from Les Miserables and delivers over two hours of the best of Broadway and the West End, ending of course with a stunning finale from Les Mis.

"This brand new show for 2019 will include many of the best numbers that have made Beyond the Barricade the most popular musical theatre concert in the country."

Incredible as it seems now, Les Mis was originally the musical which critics hated and the public queued to see.

Based on the Victor Hugo novel, a profound portrayal of the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris, which ended in disaster for the revolutionaries, the musical is equally moving.

The spokesman added: "The 20th Anniversary concert features David Fawcett (Valjean) Andy Reiss (Enjolras & Resident Director for the National Tour of Les Miserables) Katie Leeming (Eponine) and Poppy Tierney (Cosette), together with a live band who capture the feel of the original orchestrations of the chosen musicals.

"To this day every musical note is still played and sung live – very rare indeed."

The spokesman added: "Beyond the Barricade gives musical theatre songs a bold concert format treatment – but with the conviction and intention to deliver the material as if the audience are watching the original performance."

The date for the diary is December 20, from 7.30pm.
