IT was wonderful to receive the report of a mum reaching the final in a body-positive contest, while also raising money for a postnatal depression charity.

Rebecca Lewis, 25, from Warndon, has made the final stage of Miss Voluptuous 2020.

This will be the pageant’s fourth year and there are 23 finalists in the running, each raising money and awareness for their chosen charity.

Fair point: We need to stop picking on young people for enjoying their youth

Fair point: Wonderful to see the community coming together

With so much pressure on both men and woman in modern times to reach unachievable perfection, I find contests like this a welcome antidote.

Magazines do not help matters.

Some people do not realise raw images seen in the media are heavily edited to create a stylised form of the subject.

Imperfections are send to the trash bin located on the desktop never to be seen outside of the photo desk.

Even apps have been created to do this on phones - what message is this sending to children?

It's good to keep fit but I think there's an unhealthy obsession of gym use not for fitness but to sculpt an unobtainable form.

Bodybuilders are the epitome of this, pushing their bodies to unhealthy limits, causing joint wear and muscle tear.

I see it in the gym I go to, men and woman working away on weights while staring at themselves in the mirror.

I just love it when Mrs Lewis said: “This is a pageant with a difference due to it not being focused on looks or weight, but rather an eagerness to make the world a better place.

“I wish to help break the stigma behind mental health and postnatal mental health; allowing women to speak freely without shame about their issues and seek the help they need.”

I think if we all took a note from Mrs Lewis’ book, the world would be a much better, kinder place.

As long as people are happy within themselves, that is what matters.

I hope Mrs Lewis wins the contest, but if she does not, it is the taking part that counts.

Mrs Lewis will be raising money for PANDAS, an organisation that helps women and their families with pre and post natal mental health support and advice.

The Miss Voluptuous pageant will be held on October 10, 2020 at the Guildhall arts centre in Grantham.
