"VIOLENT crime will not be tolerated." That's the blunt message from the man in charge of policing Bromsgrove.

It comes after a number of police officers have been attacked in Bromsgrove after wild Friday and Saturday nights in the town.

Lee Page, new Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector for the district, admitted there will always be those who drink to excess, use illegal drugs or are simply intent on causing trouble.

He added that those people can expect to feel the full weight of the law.

The Advertiser recently reported that a second police officer has been attacked in Bromsgrove in just weeks.

Posting on social media police said an officer was punched while trying to deal with a drunk man.

Several days ago James Bateman, 23, was jailed for almost six months for strangling the policeman at the Golden Lion pub in Charford.

Mr Page said: "Bromsgrove enjoys a vibrant weekend night time economy and we work closely with partners and licensees to ensure revellers are safe.

"However, there will always be those who drink to excess, use illegal drugs or are simply intent on causing trouble. There are also those who feel it is appropriate to attack police officers going about their duties.

"My message to those individuals is that alcohol or drug related violent crime will not be tolerated and they can expect to feel the full weight of the law."
