AN Amblecote man's death was alcohol related, a coroner has concluded.

Clive Buckley died at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, on March 19 after being admitted after falling off his sofa at his home in School Drive on March 12.

Mr Buckley was known to be an alcoholic and prone to falls due to drink - Black Country Coroner's Court was told.

The 53-year-old, who lived alone, suffered a cut to his head in the fall while with his ex-partner; and due to other serious ongoing medical problems - respiratory distress and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder - he was kept in hospital where he passed away a week later on March 19.

Area coroner for the Black Country, Joanne Lees, said Mr Buckley died of acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple traumatic injuries, recurrent falls - and COPD and alcohol intake.

She said the falls Mr Buckley had suffered were alcohol related - in particular the fall that resulted in his admission to hospital. She said: "It’s clear this fall and previous alcohol related falls have caused injuries to Mr Buckley – most likely injuries to his chest leading to the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome which was exacerbated and contributed to by his suffering with COPD."

She concluded that Mr Buckley's death was alcohol related and offered her "sincere condolences" to his family.
