PUMP Street is set to be transformed with new footways and trees in the coming weeks.

Severn Trent Water has been in the city centre road replacing ageing water pipes as part of phase two of its £1.25 million project.

After its completion, on June 22, the Worcestershire County Council’s Town Centre Improvement Programme of works will then get underway.

An artists impression of how it look like has been released and as well as the footways and trees, there will be clearer marking to differentiate areas for vehicles and pedestrians during delivery times. The work is designed to ensure improved street aesthetics and pedestrian safety, all with the aim of increasing footfall in the area.

Councillor Ken Pollock, the authority's cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: "It’s great that we’re now able to move forward with these works, during what is a much quieter time within the city centre.

“The aim of the works is to give a boost to the local economy by making it more attractive for businesses and drawing more people into visiting the area. The works will complement the improvements made in other areas of the city over the last few years. It’s another example of our improvement programme which has been successful in other areas of the county too."

The council says work is set to last around 12 weeks and will be carried out in a way to minimise the impact on businesses and pedestrians, as much as possible.

Letters about the work, which is following relevant Covid-19 procedures, will be delivered to local businesses and residents this week. For more details visit worcestershire.gov.uk/pumpstreet.
