HEREFORDSHIRE Council say they have simplified the process to register to vote and people can now do so by text message.
Some people expressed confusion on social media after receiving a text about registering to vote.
But the council has confirmed that the messages are genuine .
They write to every household each year to update its register of people eligible to vote.
This year the council is encouraging people to respond online, by phone or by text to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“We write to every household in Herefordshire each year to check who is registered to vote and to ask about any changes,” a council spokesperson said.
“This year we have made the process simpler by sending a text, email or letter to households.
“Where possible we ask that residents respond to us online, by telephone or by text to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.”
