A FORTUNATE feline was rescued from a canal by Bromsgrove firefighters after it became stuck.

A crew was called to the canal in Stoke Prior after a cat called Tigger became trapped in a drainage hole yesterday (Tuesday, July 14).

The cat was seen swimming in the canal and the owner jumped in to try and save it. By that time the cat had swum to the side of the canal and got stuck in a drain.

The fire crew used an extension ladder and a hook to rescue the lucky cat.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "A happy ending for Tigger the Cat - one of a number of animal rescues attended yesterday."

The owners of the cat thanked the firefighters on Twitter. They said: "Thank you so much for all your help in rescuing Tigger.

"He had a good clean and a tin of tuna and has made a full recovery.

"One happy and very lucky cat thanks to you."
