A GROUND-breaking housing development in Wootton Wawen has been named as one of the best green schemes in the UK.

The development, officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in September, scooped Best Green Scheme in the UK in the 24housing Awards 2018.

The awards celebrate the very best the housing sector has to offer.

Derrick Dyas, chairman of Warwickshire Rural Housing Association, commented: “We are absolutely delighted that Keyte Gardens has been recognised nationally as an outstanding development.

"It has been a real partnership project from beginning to end and we are pleased that this community development is already making a big difference to the local people who have made it their home."

A total of 14 affordable homes have been built at Keyte Gardens to the rigorous Passivhaus standard.

Developed in Germany in the early 1990s, Passivhaus focuses on creating a building which is as energy efficient as possible to reduce its environmental footprint.

The homes have been built specifically for people with a local connection to the village either through family or work.
