A Redditch McDonald's worker has raised £1,500 to help the families of sick children by selling books alongside the usual burgers and fries.

Customer experience lead Emma Hill, from the Redditch Oakenshaw McDonald’s restaurant in Clews Road raised the money for the Ronald McDonald House Charity by selling books which have been donated for the cause.

The money raised will go towards supporting the house in Birmingham as they support families with children being treated at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Emma and the McDonald’s customer care team have been selling books to raise funds for around five months and has recently received a donation of more than 2,000 books from Trinity High School & Sixth Form Centre.

McDonald’s franchisee Robert Holdcroft, who owns and operates the restaurant in Redditch, said: “I’m so proud of Emma for her wonderful contribution and know that the money is going to a brilliant cause. My team are always working to help our local community as much as possible, and this is another great example of them going above and beyond.”

Emma Hill said: “I’m just pleased to have been given the opportunity to raise money for such an important charity. We know how much the Ronald McDonald House benefits the local area, so I was delighted to be able to help them do that.”

The Ronald McDonald House Charity is an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children in hospital. Last year, the house in Birmingham helped 1,018 families stay close to their children in hospital.

Adrian Ward, Headteacher said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support such a fantastic cause and thank the staff and students at Trinity for their hard work in supporting this endeavour. We wish Emma continued success in raising money”.

McDonald’s franchisees are committed to contributing to their local communities in a range of different ways; from getting involved in community regeneration projects to fundraising for local charities and sponsoring grassroots sports teams.
