THE Scanner Appeal is set to sizzle during a barbecue for the Shuttle-backed cause.

Wyre Forest District Council chairman Fran Oborski has organised the summer event to raise cash for the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends’ appeal, after choosing it as one of her charities.

The barbecue will take place at Bodenham Arboretum in Wolverley on Saturday, July 20 from 6pm until 11pm. Cash raised on the day will also be donated to the Kidderminster Foodbank.

The League of Friends wants to raise £65,000 for software for the hospital’s new CT (computedtomography) scanner and another £60,000 to pay for the building work to allow the old model to be replaced.

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, said: “What we’re hoping is that people will come to the barbecue to raise much-needed money for the Scanner Appeal.

“The good weather looks as though it’s going to stay. It should be a very pleasant and relaxing evening in wonderful Worcestershire, raising money for such a good cause.”

He added more than £36,000 had already been raised for the appeal since it was launched by The Shuttle earlier this year.

“We still get many organisations and individuals who are interested in holding events to raise money, “he said.

People can get tickets for the barbecue at the League of Friends’ stores in the Swan Centre, Kidderminster and in Lombard Street, Stourport. They are also available in the hospital’s coffee shop.

People can make a donation to the appeal by contacting the League of Friends on01562 67653.

Alternatively cheques, made payable to Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends, can be sent to Cadisha Brown, The Shuttle, 6 Towers Buildings, Blackwell Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2DY.
