LOMBARD Street in Stourport was brought to a standstill this morning after a fire in the underground fire cables.

Flames were seen coming from the pavement, in video footage captured by staff at Image Hair and Beauty, at around 8am this morning (Wednesday, December 20).

A spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Lombard Street at around 8.05am this morning.

"There was a fire in the pathway believed to be main electrics.

"Police were in attendance for road traffic management in Lombard Street. The fire was extinguished at around 9.20am.

"Two crews from Kidderminster fire station were called to the scene."

A spokesman from Western Power Distribution added: "We were made aware of an incident at around 9am this morning.

"Flames would have been seen initially however this was under control very quickly.

"This was due to a fault on some underground equipment. Ninety-two properties are currently without power.

"We have a team of engineers and a digging team on the scene to restore supplies as quickly as possible. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused."
