KIDDERMINSTER residents are being urged to have their say on proposed walking and cycling improvements across the town.

Worcestershire County Council's proposal involves the widening and resurfacing of Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal towpath that links Stourport with Kidderminster and a number of links into nearby Minster Road employment area, Silverwoods, Churchfields, Crossley Retail Park and Stourport and Kidderminster town centres.

The scheme would also include investment and installation of permanent walking and cycling counters for ongoing monitoring.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for highways and transport, said: “Worcestershire County Council is investing more into walking and cycling now than it has done in the last 50 years. These proposals add to the Active Travel schemes already outlined in the Council’s Transport Strategy, Local Transport Plan 4.

“We’d like to invite people to take a look at the new proposals and share their views, it’ll really help as we look ahead to all four schemes being built later this year.’’

The plans are being shared online and at a pop-up non-staffed exhibition in Kidderminster library throughout June until Friday July 16.

The new proposals form part of the county’s Active Travel Corridor Programme, which aims to provide better connectivity and access by enhancing walking and cycling facilities.

Worcestershire County Council have also put forward walking and cycling improvement plans for Pershore, Worcester and Redditch.

The four new proposals have been developed following a funding allocation from the Government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund in 2020.
