STOURPORT Cricket Club have secured a place in the Birmingham and District Premier League for the first time in their history.

The club's first XI earned promotion after finishing second in the county play-offs, securing one of two places in Division Two.

Stourport, who play in the Worcestershire Premier Division, beat Staffordshire and Shropshire sides Fordhouses and Wellington but lost to Warwickshire's Aston Manor to finish one point behind them.

Their decisive match against Wellington on Saturday, September 26, saw their opponents set a target of 209 after finishing on 208-6 from 50 overs.

Naeem Abbas took three wickets for Stourport, while Mohammed Shoaib Iqbal, Nikhil Jose and captain Charlie Foley took one each.

Stourport lost openers Sam Foley and Peter Hawk early in their reply, but captain Foley produced an unbeaten 92 to guide his side to victory.

Sam Beadsworth added 51 during an 86-run partnership with Foley before being caught.

Foley eventually struck a four to seal a four-wicket victory with eight balls remaining.

Promotion proved third time lucky for the club, which dates back to 1834.

Stourport topped the Worcestershire Premier Division in 2021 but could not enter the play-offs because they did not meet league eligibility requirements.

They reached the play-offs last year but saw their hopes affected by a rain-abandoned match.
