HALLOWEEN is around the corner and while youngsters are getting ready for treats instead of tricks adults can also enjoy seasonal celebrations.

As autumn's darker nights set in many people head to their local pub, off licence or supermarket looking for a spicier beer perhaps brewed from freshly harvested hops to keep out the chill.

The change from late summer to autumn coincides with Halloween, which has become widely celebrated throughout Britain and brewers often create specialist ales to mark the festival.

Some seasonal beers on the shelves this year include Wychwood Dunkel Fester a dark and malty beer, offering hints of coffee and roasted nuts with an underlying fruity finish.

It is a heavier and fuller flavour beer brewed especially for cold winter evenings.

Toffee Apple Cider which is a blend of cream soda and smouldering toffee with a rich, creamy aftertaste and a sharpness from the pears, it is best served chilled over ice.

Both beers are available from Aldi, which is also offering a Wychwood Beers of Character twelve pack that includes Hobgoblin, Hobgoblin Gold, Dr. Thirsty’s No 4, Firecatcher, Goliath and Arrowaine.

Halloween has also got to be the perfect time to enjoy some spirits and what could be more appropriate than a Bloody Mary?

For a top notch Bloody Mary mix two ice cubes and a double Vodka with the juice from half a lemon, six dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, three dashes of Tabasco sauce and 150ml of tomato juice.

Add a pinch of salt and ground black pepper, stir well and for a finishing touch serve with a stick of celery.
