Wyre Forest Phoenix 0 V 4 Inkberrow Eagles

The Under 10 game saw us take on top of the league, however you wouldn't have thought it from the first half performance. The team stopped Inkberrow from playing their game in the first half, With few chances for either team to score, with the first half ending 0-0. However after the break both teams went on the attack and it was Inkberrow who got success scoring 4 goals. This was harsh on Phoenix as we were causing them problems with Ellie Symons and Holly Tew both going close but the final score ended 0-4.

Wyre Forest Phoenix 4 V 0 Welland Juniors

The Under 16 team were hosts to Welland Juniors this week. Phoenix were in the opposition half where most of the play took place in the first half. It took just over the quarter hour when Kathryn Baylis only needed only one touch to blast and score. Despite the pressure Phoenix reached the break with only the one goal lead. However Two minutes after the break, Molly Knight found the back of the net. Eight more minutes, and Eilidh Shakespeare, stood firm with the pressurising the defender into a mistake to find her own net. Finally the scoring ended when Kathryn Baylis controls the ball and blasts home for a full time score of 4-0. Goals : KATHRYN BAYLIS (2), MOLLY KNIGHT (1), Own goals (1).

Droitwich Spa Lions 4 v 0 Wyre Forest Phoenix

The Under 17 were away to already league champions Droitwich but we were hoping to give Droitwich a good run for their money. However in the first half, where they scored 3 of their goals, Droitwich had most control over the game. Phoenix were better in the 2nd half but Droitwich scored one more despite a fine goalkeeping display from Jodie Fox and on occasions last gasp defending. A disappointing result at the final whistle of 4-0.

Women's County Cup ¼ Final

Pershore Town Ladies 1 (1) v Wyre Forest Phoenix 4 (3)

Wyre Forest phoenix Ladies progressed to the Semi-Finals of this County Cup competition after travelling to Eckington to face Pershore Town Ladies. With just 11 players on a very heavy pitch surface it was going to be hard work. WFP were keen to get a lead in the game to take control and from the whistle Player of the Match Kirsty Roberts received the ball from Tracy Evans and her shot was just wide. Two minutes later though and Roberts fired in the lead after Bex Meredith set her up. Pershore wanted to get back in the game and had an excellent chance on 20 minutes when they floated in a free kick only to see the finishing shot miss the goal. On 25 minutes ‘Robbo’ put in a great corner, Leah Haney-Wilcox shouted for the ball and headed the ball into the top right corner to double the lead. Vicky Hyde was excellent in goal and as Pershore played the long balls she was quick to sweep up and deal with anything that came through. Phoenix were in control and increased their lead again when Kelly Preece headed the ball to Chelsea Mudge, who rounded the home keeper for an easy slot into the empty goal to make it 3-0. The ladies switched off at the re-start and Pershore played the ball to the right and went round three of our players and scored to take the game 3-1 at half time.

Pershore failed to score another goal, despite having substitutes with fresh legs. The only goal in the half came from Kirsty Roberts after some fine work from Chelsea Mudge on the edge of the box to set Kirsty up for a cracking low shot to the bottom right to end the game at 1-4. Goals : Chelsea Mudge (1), Kirsty Roberts (2), Leah Haney-Wilcox (1).
