SWIFTS boss Rod Brown has told his players to stay focused after Saturday’s surprise 3-0 loss to Continental Star in the Midland Alliance.

The Walshes Meadow outfit were shot down by a brace for former St Kitts and Nevis international Aaron Garvey and Rikardo Reid.

But the manager felt his side paid the price for complacency in a game where they squandered a host of scoring opportunities.

He said: “We had 11 shots and hit the woodwork twice but while we stretched the game we were a bit too over confident.

“That has happened a couple of times this season.

“If we score first then we go onto win matches but if we don’t we can be caught out.

“Fair play to Continental, they scored some good goals but if we had scored inside the first five minutes we could have won 5-0.

“We’ve had a talk about it in training this week and it will be something we’re working on.”

Defeat ensured Swifts missed a chance to close the gap on leaders Stratford, who were beaten 3-2 by Loughborough University.

They remain six points behind the Warwickshire outfit.

Brown is set to welcome back first team regulars Joe Adams, Jordan Jones and Mark Smith for Saturday’s home clash against Causeway United (3pm ko).

Stourport will be eager to avenge being knocked out of the FA Vase by the Black Country side, who are managed by former boss Richard Colwell.

Brown said: “We want to put right what happened in the Vase against Causeway.

“That was a disappointing result but we also want to make sure we win after losing to Continental.

“The only good thing about losing was that Stratford dropped points.”

Brown is unsure over the futures of on-loan Stourbridge pair Aaron Griffiths and Tom Baldwin. The duo were both drafted into Saturday’s squad because of absences.

After Causway, Swifts take on Westfields away in the league on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).
