BEWDLEY Town joint-manager Craig Payton is hoping the supporters will come back to the club as they look to play their first home match in three months.

Town are keeping their fingers crossed that Saturday’s West Midlands League Premier Division clash against Malvern (3pm ko) goes ahead.

With the snow melting and the weather much improved compared to the recent Arctic conditions, the hopes are Ribbesford Meadow will host a match for the first time since November 10.

That kicks-off a month where Bewdley have six home games, after their attempt to persuade the league to move some of those matches to their opponents’ grounds failed.

Town are also supposed to face Dudley Town at home next Tuesday (7.45pm ko) as they look to find some momentum.

Bewdley suffered more postponements as Saturday’s Lye clash and Tuesday’s trip to Wellington were forced off.

Payton said: “At the moment it’s dry and a bit windy, which is good, but we’ll see how it looks on Friday.

“I hope the fans come back, they’ve got used to doing other things rather than watching us on a Saturday.

“It’s not been easy, we’ve lost revenue in the bar but now we’ve got a lot of games at home this month.

“That’s not ideal either with February supposed to be wet, we could see more matches off.”

Payton also believes Town will concentrate more on the cup competitions.

Despite having games in hand on their league rivals, Town have slumped to 14th in the table.

Their biggest target is to retain the Worcestershire FA Senior Urn.

Bewdley, who have won the competition for the past two years, face a much-improved Alvechurch side at home on Tuesday, February 12 (7.45pm).

“Once we start playing again we’ll build some momentum but I think we’ll be concentrating on the cups,” added Payton.

“We’d love to win the Urn again and the cups are our main aim now.”

With a fixture backlog, Town are also set to play extra mid-week games on a Thursday during March.
