MIDFIELD dynamo Gavin Hurren has admitted he was 'over the moon' after signing a new contract at Kidderminster Harriers this week.

Hurren, aged 21, sealed a memorable first full season at Aggborough by signing on for another one on Thursday.

I'm over the moon to have signed for another season," said Gavin.

"I've had a great season and am looking forward to coming back and helping the team get even better."

The tigerish midfielder has came a long way since he joined the club at the start of 2006, when he was loaned out Harriers' neighbours Bromsgrove Rovers for a month by manager Mark Yates.

"When I came in Mark Yates didn't know me and decided to send me on loan to Bromsgrove Rovers to get some games under my belt," said the midfielder.

"It worked out really well. I played a lot of games during the month I was there.

"I was determined to do well because Rovers are a good club and the manager was watching me. It worked because he signed me up when I returned and I haven't looked back."

The midfielder has also forged a formidable midfield partnership with Russ Penn. The duo struck up a firm friendship when playing as kids for home town team Halesowen Town.

They then went to Aston Villa as rookies but went their separate ways when Hurren went to Nottingham Forest and Penn signed for Birmingham City, before fate brought them back together at Aggborough.

"I was put into midfield at the start of the season, which is my preferred position, and have really enjoyed it. I know Russ Penn from way back and we've got a really good partnership in midfield.

"Hopefully we can come back, train hard and play well together like we did this season.

"It's been a good season for me, I've been part of a team that had a great run in the league and reached the FA Trophy Final.

"I think with the squad we've got here we can do really well next season and we'll be even stronger when the manager brings a few new faces in."
