IT’S the end of an era as Kidderminster Shuttle sports editor Pete McKinney hangs up his pen and notepad.
Pete, 38, is leaving journalism after 15 eventful years writing about sport in Worcestershire to retrain as a teacher.
He made an eventful start covering Kidderminster Harriers at the end of the 2006-07 season, watching their thrilling FA Trophy 3-2 loss to Stevenage at Wembley Stadium.
Over the years he’s reported the roller-coaster at Aggborough, including Kiddy’s brilliant 2012-13 season where they finished runners-up in the Football Conference and missed out on the Football League by a point.
Other highlights include the FA Cup replay win at Peterborough United in 2014 and the fourth-round clash at Premier League Sunderland.
Since 2011, Pete’s also written sport for sister papers in Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich.
“It has been a tremendous honour to write about sport in Worcestershire,” said Pete, who received a Harriers top before Monday’s win over Altrincham on Monday.
“The county is a hotbed, full of dedicated and passionate people who care about the county’s clubs.
“I have followed Kidderminster Harriers home and away for over nine seasons and it’s never been dull!
“My aim was to always try and inform the supporters about what was going on at every club and there’s certainly been plenty to report on.
“I wish Harriers and all the clubs the very best.”
