BEWDLEY ended their mixed Worcestershire League season on a high with a convincing seven-wicket victory against Hagley.

The visitors opted to bat first on a blameless pitch but their innings plodded along in a typically end-of-season fashion. At 149 for three with 15 overs to play, Hagley's hopes of a substantial total fell away to a disappointing score of 196 all out.

Captain Jack Mills (6-43) was the star of the show with a penetrating spell which saw him reach 45 wickets for the season and in reply, Adam Groves (21) and Simon Mauger (15) batted solidly at the start.

The match-winning partnership of Gareth Lewis and Rob Combes came together at 75-2 and took Bewdley to the cusp of victory. Lewis has looked in good form for some time and his masterful 74 was pleasing on the eye.

Combes was equally fluent and his unbeaten 65 took guided the hosts to 198 for three with a little under nine overs to spare.
