BEWDLEY Town manager Craig Payton is hoping to finally see his squad in action with two friendlies in two days at Ribbesford Meadow this week.

Bewdley take on Hereford side Pegasus in a re-arranged fixture at home tonight (Wednesday) and then welcome Black Country side Stourbridge on Thursday (both games 7.30pm kick off).

It will be the manager's first chance to see his squad in action, after the record breaking wet July forced off two friendlies this summer.

Craig Payton said: "With all the bad weather over July I am eager to see some friendly games under our belts.

"The season is little over a week away and before Wednesday we haven't been able to play.

"But I am looking forward to the games because it's a chance for me to get a look at the lads and for the players to sharpen up."

With Bewdley kicking off the West Midlands Premier Division on August 11 away at Pelsall Villa, Payton will have to make some ruthless decisions when it comes to trimming his squad.

He currently has 21 players but admits that it will have to be chopped down to nearer 18 before the season kicks off.

"We have 21 players at the moment but we won't be going into the season with that many," said Payton.

"I will get it down to 17 or 18, because we wouldn't be able to keep all the players happy if they are sitting on the bench.

"I think the squad will be geared up for promotion to the Midland Alliance this season.

"It is stronger than last season and we will have more competition for places."

Town will reveal the new home and away kits at the Pegasus match on Wednesday night.
