BRILLIANT Bewdley have been crowned Worcestershire County League Division One champions.

They bagged title joy for the first time since 1982 thanks to last Saturday's eight-wicket success at Worcester Nomads.

Bewdley started the day needing a single point to seal the title and so had no hesitation in fielding after winning the toss.

Paul Taylor was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4-59 after a marathon spell, and Andy Platt completed a fine season with two vital wickets, one of them the dangerous Ollie Ranscombe, thanks to a marvellous stumping by Rob Combes.

With Bewdley already having gained two points they were presented with the trophy at the first drinks interval, and then Josh Freestone (2-7) polished off the Nomads innings.

Chasing a modest 127 for victory, Bewdley were seen home very rapidly by Simon Mauger (67) and Ash Fearnall (37).

The league win for Bewdley also saw them beat rivals Stourport to the title.

The ended with a second-placed finish after beating Chaddesley Corbett last weekend.

Cookley, meanwhile, ended the season bottom of Division One after losing at home to Pedmore.
