KIDDERMINSTER'S Claire Cashmore secured a silver medal at the 2018 ITU Elite Paratriathlon World Championships at Australia’s Gold Coast.

Cashmore, competing in the PTS5 category at Mitchell Park, came second behind fellow Brit Lauren Steadman but ahead of USA’s Grace Norman in third.

It was a superb bike ride from Steadman that saw her take charge of the race, putting her in a commanding position heading onto the 5km run. Cashmore was unable to close the gap and Norman ran out of course just as she was threatening to catch her rival.

Cashmore said: "I'm over the moon to have picked up the silver medal at the Grand Final. Since taking up triathlon just over 18months ago it has been a steep learning curve with ups and downs and constantly pushing myself out my comfort zone, but I have genuinely loved every minute of it."
