SCORES of young cricketers picked up awards as Kidderminster Cricket Club’s junior section celebrated another successful season.

First team captain Neil Pinner was on hand to present trophies to best batsmen, best bowlers, best all-rounders and most improved young players across the age groups, along with medals to all juniors.

The Rob Wood Shield for clubman of the year went to Josh Tidmarsh, aged 18, who has captained his age group from under-9 and was described as an “excellent role model to his peers and to younger juniors”.

Ace batsman Joe Miszkowski, aged 15, was awarded the Harvey Wagstaff Memorial Cup for most outstanding feat, after being selected to play in the prestigious Bunbury Festival, which brings together the country’s most talented under-15 schoolboy cricketers.

The Reg Bridgewater Trophy for the most enthusiastic player went to another good prospect 13-year-old Tom Powell, who played in more junior games than any other youngster.

Special certificates were awarded to 14-year-old Elliot Small, who scored his first century this season, playing for the club’s fourth team and to 13-year-old Dylan Griffiths, for a five-wicket haul.

Champions’ medals were presented to juniors, aged from 13, who have been the backbone of the club’s fourth team, which has enjoyed unprecedented success having won promotion in two consecutive years, this season winning the WCC League 2nd XI Division 3 title.

Captain Ian Sadler said: “It is a development team designed to give young players their first taste of senior cricket and boasted 14 juniors in the squad this season. To have such success is unprecedented and to have such talented young blood moving through the ranks bodes very well for the future of the club.”

Mr Sadler was also presented with an engraved glass tankard in recognition of his immense contribution to junior training over 28 years. Although retiring as assistant head coach and a junior team manager, he will continue to help with junior coaching.
