WIN it for Snapper – that’s Ashley Vincent’s message to Worcester City going into tomorrow’s clash of the titans with Ilkeston Town (3pm).

Manager John Snape misses the crunch Midland Football League showdown at the Victoria Ground through illness with right-hand man Vincent taking charge.

City boast a 13-match unbeaten run in all competitions ahead of hosting the league leaders, themselves on a run of seven games without defeat.

Three points separate the giants going into the Premier Division’s match of the day with Vincent keen to give Snape a welcome tonic.

“We know the gaffer is not back yet and this is a game he would have been itching to get involved with,” said Vincent.

“More than anything else we all want to put on a good performance for him this weekend. We want to show we’re sticking together so when he comes back that we’re in an equal or better position than when he was last in the dugout.”

Ilkeston fans are expected to travel in numbers to make for a bumper gate, something Vincent wants City to use to their advantage.

“We might see a big crowd for the level but if you find that daunting you’re probably in the wrong game," he added.

“You want to play in front of as many people as possible and in big games. At this level, this is as big as you’re going to get.

“Two of the top three going head to head with the two biggest fan bases in the league is something to enjoy.

“Our players should relish that, it is not every week that they will play in that environment and it is a chance to show their quality.

“We will try to give a good account of ourselves in terms of effort first and foremost. Hopefully, that will help our ability show.”

Ilkeston, promoted from Division One last season having reformed over the summer of 2017, will not be a totally unknown quantity for City.

“We have covered other games they have played in and saw them last weekend,” said Vincent.

“They have a good, young side that’s full of energy and running with strong physicality to go with it.

“I am sure they would have plenty of positive things to say about us, though. It is one for the neutral to enjoy and hopefully both teams can show their ability on the day.

“Sometimes these top-of-the-table games can level out and you don’t see as much quality as you might expect. All we can do is concentrate on our jobs and give a good account of ourselves.

“We are aiming for another three points. We are at home and have to be confident on the back of such a good unbeaten run."
