KIDDERMINSTER Carolians clinched their first victory of the season in the Midlands Division Three West (South) by seeing off Old Silhillians 16-5 at Marlpool Lane on Saturday.

The home side bounced back from two defeats with a comprehensive display to see off their Midlands rivals.

Winger Ben Stanier gave his side the best start possible when he touched down in the fifth minute.

Kidderminster grabbed their second try on the half hour mark, when Andy McLellan gathered his own kick to carve open Old Sils' defence and make it 10-0.

McLellan then scored a penalty to hand Kidderminster a commanding 13-0 lead.

Another penalty from McLellan increased the home team's advantage at the start of the second half, but KCs had to withstand a fight back by Silhillians, who grabbed a consolation try.

Head coach Dave Irish was pleased to see his side record their first league win of the season and his first victory since he took the reins at Marlpool Lane in the summer.

"It was a good performance by the team and I thought we picked up where we left off from in our previous game against Laurentians," said Irish.

"The team pattern is starting to come together and while it's early days I think the team is starting to take shape the more the lads play together.

"I have been pleased by the performance of our forward line. They have really stood out and worked hard and gave us a platform to build on."

Fly-half John Mounter could miss Saturday's trip to Earlsdon after he dislocated a thumb near the end of Carolians' win over Silhillians.

While he was able to play until the end of the game Irish is monitoring Mounter, who is a key player for KCs, and may call on Ian Crockett from the second team if he does not recover.

Kidderminster have been drawn against Midlands Three East (North) side Spalding in the EDF Senior Vase. The two sides will clash at Marlpool Lane on October 13.

n Kidderminster's second team got the better of Old Silhillians 38-22, with Crockett notching up 18 points after scoring a try, two penalties and kicking five conversions.

Alex Thompson, Mark Goodwin, Ben Mannion and Dave Betson also touched down.

Kidderminster's third team got the better of Stourport's seconds in a 20-3 victory, with Ben Sterling (2) and Mark Bissett scoring tries, while Nick Kaye kicked a conversion and a penalty.
