KIDDERMINSTER Carolians bagged a convincing win in the RFU Intermediate Cup against powerful opposition.

Crewe and Nantwich were the visitors to Marlpool Road but found themselves on the back foot after a strong start from KCs.

Jess Smith scored a try after five minutes which set the tone for the rest of the first half with strong defence and excellent handling by the Kidderminster side countering strong individual ball carrying by the visitors.

Arthur Morgan extended the lead with a try converted by Chris Pinner after eight minutes.

Home captain Mike Protheroe added a converted try after 15 mins and this was quickly followed by Kidderminster prop Matt Rigsby showing pace and agility to score a try.

Crewe used pace on the wing to register a converted try but Pinner hit back witha try to make the score 29-7 at half time.

Kidderminster piled on more points after the break with an unconverted try from Scott Lovell before the visitors crashed through for a converted try.

Arthur Morgan settled home supporters’ nerves with an unconverted try and Kidderminster stepped up the pace with a period of fast handling and good support leading to the referee awarding a penalty try as the Crewe full-back knocked down a scoring pass from Rich Sollom.

With the win secured KCs may have relaxed to concede two late converted tries to make the final score 46-28.

They face Kenilworth at home in a critical league game this weekend.
