A DOUBLE gold performance from Samurai Judo Club’s Leah Grosvenor saw her win at both the Welsh Open Cadet Championships and Welsh Open Junior Championships.

In the cadet section, which is for players under 18 years, the16-year-old leads the British rankings.

With 15 players in her category, it took Grosvenor less than a minute in total to win through to the final, with maximum scores all the way.

In the final she faced the British number two who was brushed aside in under two minutes.

In the junior section, which is under 21 years, Grosvenor is ranked number two in Britain, behind a Scottish girl who was not present at the event.

She was therefore seeded number one for the day and had a bye in the first round. Her second round opponent, from Berkshire’s Pinewood Judo Club, lasted just 26 seconds.

Grosvenor scored maximum points to win the semi-final before going on to victory in the final in just over 90 seconds.

The win confirmed her second place in the British Junior rankings behind Scotland’s Josie Steele.

Grosvenor has been training at her home club with 2012 judo Olympian Kelly Edwards, who is a former Samurai member.
