MATT Gwynne has made a timely return to training at Worcester City.

The goalkeeper started four of City's first 10 matches this season, vying for supremacy with Dan Jezeph before suffering problems with the hand he broke last season during a 6-1 win at Dunkirk in September.

Sam Gilder signed that week and has been Jezeph's understudy since but opportunity knocks for both with the first-choice stopper suspended and facing the prospect of a six-month ban for improper conduct towards a match official.

Gwynne is unlikely to feature at Sporting Khalsa tomorrow (3pm) but may get much-needed game time with five matches to fit in before Christmas.

"Matt has returned to training after a lengthy lay-off with a hand injury, Gilder will play (at Khalsa) but we want to get Matt back up to speed," said boss John Snape.

"We have Sean (Dayus) from the under-21s who is doing okay as well. It is something we will look at over the next few games."

Snape reported no injury doubts ahead of the trip to Willenhall with new signings Jamal Lawrence and Kaoui Attoumani being considered.

“I hope to have at least one of them involved,” Snape added.

“The other one might need a bit more work in training but we do hope to get minutes into both as quickly as possible."

It will be City's first match since suffering a 6-1 bashing against Westfields with Snape's focus on the performance first and foremost.

“When you have been beaten convincingly it is better to get straight back out there," he added.

"For one reason or another we have not had the opportunity but we have worked hard in training.

“But the lads have had full sessions since the Westfields game and while this will be a test against a team that is going very well, we are going there to try to impose our style, get it down and play and put on a much-improved performance.

“Khalsa have good physicality and knowledge of the league so they will play to their strengths.

"We are going there to play on an artificial surface and hopefully that will suit our ball players. If we can get it down and move the ball quickly, I am hopeful we will cause them problems."

The manager finished with a message to City's fans.

“I am hoping the support over this Christmas period stays strong, we have had a difficult few weeks but the backing we get is fantastic," said Snape.

“Coming up to Christmas people might find it hard to get to so many games but I want everyone to know how much their support is needed and appreciated.”
