WORCESTER men's firsts surprised high-flying Beeston seconds with a 2-1 home win in Midland League Division One.

Chris Watling firing Worcester into a deserved lead from a penalty corner midway through the first half.

Beeston won short corners but a solid defence led by Matt Kettley and keeper Tom Dalton kept the opposition out before they levelled on half-time from a penalty corner.

Bottom-of-the-table Worcester continued to work hard and the game could have gone either way.

Striker Ben Cooke powered through two minutes from time and passed to Matt Gardner who finished the winner into an empty net.

In their second match of the weekend Worcester, without several regulars, lost 3-1 to North Stafford.

First-team debutant Ethan McDonald-Smith hit the post but North Stafford broke to score from the rebound.

Worcester were 2-0 down at half-time and conceded another before Rees Bonham bagged a consolation.

There were good displays from the new players especially McDonald-Smith and Tom Scotson.

The seconds lost 6-0 to Olton and West Warwick thirds in the West Midlands Premier.

Worcester conceded two soft goals in a nervy start but then created chances through Asher Johnson and Ryan Harding.

But Olton scored a third just before half-time and added three more in the second period.

The thirds had no substitutes to call on and a veteran back four in a 6-3 defeat at Old Halesonians seconds in the South West Premier.

Worcester were 2-1 up at one stage as Tom Lewis and Dave Shepherd scored.

They also lost 2-1 at Kings Heath Pickwick firsts with Luke Pillinger on target and promising debuts from Zac Goodman and Arthur Quinn.

The fourths lost 6-2 at Harborne fourths in South West Two with Billy Forrester-Walker and Charlie Bell on target.

The fifths lost 3-0 to leaders Edgbaston fourths in South West Two and the sixths crashed 14-0 at second-placed Bridgnorth fourths in South West Three.

Worcester women's firsts drew 3-3 in Midlands Feeder West with local rivals Stourport thirds who went ahead from open play.

The city side replied with a sweetly-struck penalty corner by Helen Barnes.

Worcester then won a short corner which was buried into the bottom corner by Barnes.

Stourport levelled after the break before a strike by Tash Walker gave Worcester a 3-2 lead.

But Stourport converted a late penalty corner for the final equaliser.

The seconds won 4-1 at Tenbury firsts in Worcestershire League Division One thanks to Clare Hayes (2), Jo Baggs and Libby Wycherley.

Worcester thirds thrashed Stourport fifths 5-1 in Division Two through Catlin Davies (2), Katie Ralph, Gemma Styles and Charlotte Pawson.

Worcester boys' under 12s won four out of five games at the Gloucestershire Hockey Association tournament.

They played three Cheltenham teams with 1-0 and 3-2 victories alongside a 3-0 defeat.

Worcester also beat Cirencester B 5-0 and Blockley 4-0.
