KIDDERMINSTER fighter Bradley Owen returned to mixed martial arts action with a points victory in Wolverhampton.

Owen and fellow fighter Sophie Luxton, who both train at Russell Perks Martial Arts Academy, based at Meadow Mill Industrial Estate, were on the card at the Golden Ticket Fighting Promotions event on Saturday, February 23.

Owen's opponent Harvey Hale, who has a solid fighting background and who has been recently fighting in Thailand, came to the fight with the fight name “H bomb”.

A strong lively crowd from Kidderminster and Stourport travelled to show support Owen as he put in one of his best performances.

The fight was over five rounds in mixed martial arts, with Owen dominating every round, striking with precision, actively controlling takedowns and looking for submissions. The result saw him win by unanimous decision and taking home the GTFP light welterweight championship belt.

Meanwhile, it was a comeback fight for Sophie Luxton as she hasn’t fought for 18 months and she was competing against a very tough opponent.

She faced Levi Steedman from Manchester and the first round saw a gritty performance from Luxton. In the second round, Luxton get taken to the ground and Steedman forced the stoppage.

On Owen's victory, head coach Russell Perks said: "The fight team have supported Bradley in training hard for this event, many sparring classes each week along with many conditioning classes courtesy of Crusader Strength. We have big plans for 2019 which will see all our fight team competing a various events up and down the country.

"A massive thank you to Bradley Owen’s sponsors, Crusader Strength, Hodgehill Butchery, Bear Hug, EBC Group and The Lodge."
