DARYL Mitchell felt Worcestershire Rapids produced the “perfect performance” when beating Lancashire by 125 runs in yesterday's Royal London One-Day Cup opener at Emirates Old Trafford.

Hamish Rutherford and Mitchell scored centuries after Riki Wessels' explosive early 72 in the County's total of 367 and then Rapids bowled out the hosts for 242.

Mitchell said: “We had a chat in the dressing room afterwards and we did exactly what we set out to do really with bat, ball and in the field.

“When you win the toss, you want to put a big score on the board.

“Riki got us off to a flier which meant we got momentum early on and Hamish and I managed to carry that on and 360-odd was more than competitive.

“Then we set the tone beautifully with the ball. Tonguey (Josh Tongue) in particular was exceptional upfront and we carried that on throughout the innings.

“A lot of the damage was done upfront. To keep them in the powerplay to 40-odd runs was an exceptional effort when chasing a big score like that and you try to build pressure by bowling dot balls.

“We kept putting the pressure on as the scoring rate increased and kept chipping away with wickets as well. It was a perfect performance really.”

Rapids' next game in the competition is at Leicestershire on Sunday (11am).
