ASSISTANT boss Russ Penn was pleased with how Harriers acquitted themselves against League One side Bristol Rovers.

A strong Rovers side was held to a 1-1 draw at Aggborough as the Reds’ pre-season programme continued on Saturday.

Ashley Chambers handed Harriers a deserved half time lead before Bristol levelled in the second period.

It was a pleasing performance from a confident looking Kidderminster side that went into the game on the back of last week's victory over a youthful Aston Villa outfit.

Penn said: “It was a good test for us today and I think we were ready for it.

“It was a League One outfit coming to our place and bringing a full-strength squad with lots of experience and I think our boys really stuck at it.

“First half there was loads of combination play, loads of energy and we started the game really well. “We brought the young ones on at the end. It was a tough 25 minutes for them but I thought they coped with it really well.

The coach was also pleased with how Ed Williams has taken to life playing in a more advanced position alongside Chambers in attack.

He added: “It’s new for Ed Williams playing up top but I think he and Chambo’s movement and the combination has been great so far.

“We’ve got to keep working on that and enjoy the movement they’ve got and progress it, and that’s what we’ll be doing in training in the weeks ahead.

“We are ten days into the pre-season, have got new bodies in, will have new bodies coming in in the next couple of weeks and it’s all part of the programme. So far, so good.”

Harriers now go to Stourport Swifts before facing Bromsgrove Sporting.
