ALISON Young took the bronze medal in this year’s women’s laser radial World Championship at Sakaininato Marina in Japan.
Approximately 120 sailors took part, with many seeking national selection for the forthcoming Olympics.
Light winds made the course difficult and many sailors failed to achieve any consistency in the races. After a slow start, Alison soon got down to business achieving six results in the top 10 from the week-long series. A total of 11 races made up the week's sailing.
Finishing the competition as the leading British sailor means she goes forward to the Olympic test event being held in Enoshima, Japan.
Young started her sailing career at Trimpley Resevoir, just two miles upstream from Bewdley.
