How they rated:

Stourbridge 3, Whitby 2

Wren: At fault for the first goal when he miscued his clearance straight at Matt Tymon, even though it was a difficult back pass to deal with. Made up for that with a fine penalty save and stayed solid throughout to collect balls into the box. 6.

Green: Was rewarded for his defensive efforts and energy by bagging the vital winning goal. On hand to poke the ball home after Tilt’s late corner dropped in the six-yard box. 6.5.

Brown: Superb showing from one of Stour’s best players this season. Set up his side’s first and caused more problems with powerful runs down the flank in the second half. Defended well and used the ball well. 7.5.

Tonks: It wasn’t an easy afternoon for Stour but Tonks dragged his side through those spells. Good energy in midfield and was always snapping in with good challenges in midfield. Unlucky to give away the penalty as he won the ball but his momentum carried him into the attacker. 7.

Williams: Grew into the game as the second half wore on and made some vital clearances in the final 20 minutes. Had, alongside Carter, struggled in the first half. 6.

Carter: He and Williams seemed to struggled with Whitby’s aerial bombardment and too often the duo lost out when the ball was played forwards. Not tested as much in the second half. 5.5.

Bellis: Neat touches in midfield and kept the Glassboys ticking over once they were on top. Got into the box well to convert their first from Brown’s cross. 6.5.

Grocott: Struggled to have an impact and drifted out of the game for too long. Found it hard to get on the ball in the area he likes in front of the Whitby backline. 5.

Lloyd: Worked hard, held the ball up well, showed neat footwork at times and led the line to good effect. Missed one glorious late opening for a goal his performance deserved. 7.

Tilt: Got Stour on the front foot time and time again. His direct running caused Whitby plenty of problems. Set up Nicholls for the equaliser and his corner led to Green’s winner. 7.5.

Cook: Showed good moments, especially at the end of the first half when he started to drive with the ball at his feet. Did drift out of the game in the second half. 6.

Subs:

Nicholls: Stour needed a spark and it was Nicholls that gave it them. Got on the ball in good areas, found space and fired home the leveller with the help of a deflection. 7.

Turton: Got on the ball and found some good passes as Stour went looking for a way back. The introduction of him and Nicholls were key to Stour’s momentum shift. 6.5.

Winwood: Late changes as Stour managed the closing stages well. N/A.

Unused subs: Landell, Birch, Fisher.
