KIDDERMINSTER boxer Sam Wall is celebrating after winning gold at the annual England Boxing National Development Championships.

The 15 year old from Bewdley was representing Mikey's Boxing Gym and the Midlands region at the national final in Banbury, Oxfordshire on Saturday, which was also streamed live on England Boxing's YouTube channel.

He made the final after winning his national semi-final contest the previous week in Newton Aycliffe, Yorkshire.

Wall started his boxing journey at Mikey's Boxing Gym three years ago has gone from strength-to-strength learning his craft in club bouts across the country.

He claimed national honours in style with a unanimous points win in the final against a very good opponent from the Ring Boxing Club, Berkshire, to gain his gold medal, which is also believed to be the the first national development title ever won by a boxer from a Kidderminster-based boxing club.

Coach Michael Mikolajczyk said: "On behalf of all coaches and members of the gym, we are all so proud of Sam. He is a great lad with incredible work ethic, has worked really hard for this and is always willing to learn from all the coaches.

"He is very self-motivated and an inspiration to the other aspiring boxers at Mikey's and the look of pride on his biggest supporters' faces, his mum and dad, was priceless. This will now help inspire the other talented boxers we have coming through to go on to emulate this success."
