WORCESTERSHIRE paceman Charlie Morris has signed a contract extension until the end of the 2021 campaign.

Morris had one year remaining on his deal but has been rewarded for a fine 2019 campaign with an additional 12 months.

The 27-year-old recaptured his place this summer after successfully remodelling his action and ended as the County’s joint leading wicket-taker in first-class cricket with 44 victims.

Morris achieved a career-best 7-45 in the Specsavers County Championship match against Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground.

He also scored his maiden half-century against Australia at Blackfinch New Road and experienced his first T20 cricket for three years in the quarter-final and finals day at the Vitality Blast.

Morris’ efforts earned him the prestigious Dick Lygon Award at the club’s end-of-season presentation evening and he was also voted the Worcestershire County Cricket Supporters’ Association player of the year.

Worcestershire cricket steering group chairman Paul Pridgeon said: “Charlie has signed a one-year contract extension until the end of the 2021 season and it is thoroughly deserved.

“Charlie was an integral part of the squad last summer and showed tremendous character in the way he bounced back after remodelling his action.

“He is always striving to improve, works tirelessly at his game, not just bowling but batting as well, and is so popular amongst our members and supporters.”

Hereford-born Morris picked up 50 wickets in his first full season in the senior side in 2014 and played a key part in them achieving promotion.

He followed it up with a further 44 scalps in Division One in 2015 and to date has picked up 183 first-class wickets at 29.85 and 40 List A.
