WORCESTERSHIRE'S physio is to link up with the senior England squad this summer for their ODI series against Ireland.

Worcestershire CCC head of science and medicine, Ben Davies, will be part of England’s physio team for the Royal London Series against Ireland at the Ageas Bowl.

Davies has earned further international recognition after impressing as England Lions physiotherapist during the successful winter tour of Australia.

He will be reunited with Worcestershire CCC all-rounder Moeen Ali who is part of England’s 24-strong ‘behind-closed-doors training group’ who will go into camp at the Ageas Bowl on July 16 ahead of the series against Ireland starting on July 30.

Stourbridge-born Davies will also be working in tandem with Ben Langley in a Blackfinch New Road partnership past and present stretching back a decade.

Langley was first team physio at Worcestershire when he offered Davies, who had previously worked with the Aston Villa Academy, the second team role.

From there Langley went onto become England physio and then medical services lead at the ECB with Davies replacing him in his first team role at Worcestershire.

Davies said: "The ECB contacted the club and asked if I would go and work with the England white ball squad.

"They’ve got two concurrent squads at the moment with large numbers, so they needed an extra pair of hands.

"I think a factor was that I’d done the Lions trip and was familiar with quite a few of the players in this white ball training squad.

"I was asked to go and help out at the Ageas Bowl for the Ireland Series and the club have let me go and do it.

"I can’t wait. I really enjoyed the Lions tour last winter and I learnt a lot. I’m also looking forward to working with Ben Langley again.

"He was pretty much my mentor and it will be really nice to renew that relationship from years ago at Worcestershire CCC.

"Working with England is the highest honour for anyone and Moeen has told me he is going to make me welcome in his special way.

"We will be locked in for three weeks. It will be a bit different with COVID protocols and the ECB have done an amazing job in getting cricket up and running again."

Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group chairman, Paul Pridgeon, said Davies’ England role is fully deserved.

He said: "We are absolutely delighted. It is recognition for a great job he does with us and the job he did when abroad with The Lions.

"England have been very impressed with what he’s done which I’m not surprised about because he is a very impressive, efficient and professional operator."
